SARATOGA SPRINGS -- The city will furlough a combination of three to five firefighters or police officers for at least 90 days Jan. 1, Public Safety Commissioner Thomas J. Curley announced Monday, citing budget constraints.
The proposed cuts will reduce police patrol coverage by 25 percent and would result in occasional closings of the Westside firehouse.
If the city extends the furlough into the summer tourism months, it may have to call upon the Saratoga County Sheriff's Department for assistance in handling the crowds that flood the city's streets and bars during that time.
